چکیده

Part A reviews the basic estimation theory of the generalized method of moments (GMM) and Part B deals with optimal instrumental variables. 1 For the most part, we restrict attention to iid observations. Linear Regression Economists often use linear regression to quantify a relationship between economic variables. A linear regression between y and x is a relationship of the form y = x 0 β + ε (A.1) where β and ε are chosen in such a way that ε is uncorrelated with x (which typically includes a constant term). Thus, the parameter vector β satisfies

Optimal Government Budget Allocation According to Aggregate Welfare using Generalized Method of Moments

How should the government budget be allocated to public education, higher education, health, transportation, IT, energy, or indirect public services including expenses on laws and regulations, business governance, and tax reforms. We examine data between 1989 and 2019 of public spending and their outcomes for each affair and title. The results show that despite that number of students declined ...

A Survey of Weak Instruments and Weak Identification in Generalized Method of Moments

Weak instruments arise when the instruments in linear instrumental variables (IV) regression are weakly correlated with the included endogenous variables. In generalized method of moments (GMM), more generally, weak instruments correspond to weak identification of some or all of the unknown parameters. Weak identification leads to GMM statistics with nonnormal distributions, even in large sampl...

Firms’ Characteristics and Adjustment Speed of Dividend Payout Ratio: System-GMM and Differenced-GMM Approaches

Since paying over or not paying dividends can cause the firms to face financial crises, firms are always looking for discovery and using a target (optimal) dividend payout ratio. It should be noted that a dividend ratio is a dynamic number and a variety of factors affect it over time. The movement speed of the dividend payout ratio towards the target depends on several factors. This paper inves...

The Impact of Monetary Policies on the Exchange Rate: A GMM Approach

T his paper investigates the impact of monetary policies on the exchange rate of selected developing countries during the period 2001-2010. For this purpose, in addition to the theoretical explanation, dynamic panel data based on the generalized method of moments (GMM) have been used to estimate the model. Our findings indicate that the lag of exchange rate variable has a positive and signific...
